  • B-24 Cockpit Book's Dedication

"This book is dedicated to my uncle, 2nd Lt. Ralph T. Clapps, who was killed in action while serving as a copilot on a B-24 Liberator with the Eighth Air Force stationed in England during WWII."

"On February 24, 1944, his ship was on a mission to Gotha, Germany, when a rocket fired from a German fighter hit the nose of his Liberator. My uncle and the pilot fought the controls of their plane long enough for the surviving crew members to bail out. In contacting the survivors of that ill-fated crew almost 60 years after the event, they said there was never a day they did not think of the heroic efforts of my uncle and the pilot 1st Lt. Sidney Swanson."

"The book is also dedicated to 1st Lt. Douglas Mabee who was killed in action on April 10, 1970, in Quang Tinh Province, Vietnam. He was the epitome of what all young officers should be."

F Troop Flag "Finally, it is dedicated to all those who served with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam and especially those in F Troop, 17th Cavalry."
